How To Stop Overeating: 10 Easy Steps

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

We’ve all eaten too much at one time or another. But while some people only tend to overeat at parties, there are those who have made it a habit. Their reasons for overeating range from boredom to stress. These people often don’t realize that they’re gaining weight.

One day, they’re just shocked by the fact that they’ve gained many pounds due to their mindless overeating.

Before that happens, it’s best for you to control your urge to binge mindlessly. Here are some simple moves you can make to complement your willpower:

1. Don’t get tempted by food advertisements.
Even when you aren’t hungry, it’s easy to get tricked into buying food that’s being promoted
in billboards, TV ads and magazines. Each time you find yourself drooling over print ads
featuring a burger or a steak, you must remind yourself that manufacturers spend millions of
dollars to create a need for what they are selling. You won’t die if you don’t get to eat
whatever is featured in food advertisements.

2. Substitute food with exercise.
Stop yourself each time you think of bingeing when you’re stressed. You should just head for the gym or go for a long walk to get rid of your frustrations.

3. Think of 20 valid reasons.
If you’re having a difficult time reminding yourself that having a whole bucket of fried chicken is a bad idea, stop and start thinking of 20 good reasons why you should indulge yourself. Chances are you won’t be able to come up with enough justifications to back up your desire to eat something that’s not good for you.

4. Savor your meals.
Studies show that people are more likely to eat more than they should when they’re distracted. This is why you should stop eating in front of the TV. Munching on snacks while
working is also not advisable.

5. Drink water.
Whenever you crave for food, drink a glass of water first to make sure that you’re not confusing thirst with hunger.

7. Get rid of your food stash.
Having too much food within reach will only encourage you to keep reaching for something to munch on. Many people don’t stop until they know that there’s nothing left to eat.

8. Do some other tasks after dinner.
To avoid eating more after dinnertime, keep yourself busy with tasks such as reading,
sending emails to your friends and organizing your sock drawer. Your chosen task will help
keep you from thinking about getting a snack after dinner or at midnight.

9. Reward yourself from time to time.
Give in to your food craving occasionally. Depriving yourself of your favorite treats may
cause you to lose control and binge uncontrollably.

10. Brush your teeth.
Each time you think that you still want to eat even after you’ve had a food meal, you should
just brush your teeth. The mint taste of the toothpaste will banish your hunger pangs.

When it comes to developing healthy eating habits, you need all the help you can get to stay on track. You just have to accept the fact that your willpower needs reinforcements when it comes to resisting the temptation to binge.

Reach Your Weight Loss Goals with Weight Watchers

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Have you found yourself desiring to lose weight lately, but are just not sure how to go about completing the task? There are so many choices out there where weight-loss is concerned and it can be hard to know what will work for you. Mixed in with valuable information can be lots of gimmicks promising unrealistic results with little or no effort on your part. One weight-loss solution that’s been proven and shown to be effective is Weight Watchers. Over time, Weight Watchers has managed to continually update their programs to make them simple to use. The Weight Watchers program has been available for over 45 years and gives a lot of insight with their program.

Weight Watchers allows you to achieve weight-loss through a points tallying system. Each food you eat has a point value that you tally throughout the day. While on the program, you receive a certain amount of points each day based on your sex, weight, job and your age range. As the most popular option available, you can try the Flex plan on Weight Watchers. With this approach, you have a number of Flex points that you can use for special occasions or events where you know you’ll be eating more calorie dense foods. Each day, you get the same number of points and each week you get a fresh batch of Flex points. One positive thing about the Weight Watchers plan is that there are no foods you are forbidden to eat. You simply learn the principles of portion control and eating in moderation by following the points system. There are classroom meetings and weigh-ins held weekly that you attend if you’re doing the traditional program. If you’re doing the online program, you track your points and enter your weekly weight online.

A newer program option offered through Weight Watchers is the Momentum Plan. Weight Watchers Momentum teaches you how to use foods that are more filling to keep your hunger under control. There are guidelines to the Momentum program that include eating five servings of fruits and veggies daily, two servings of milk products, six glasses of liquids, one to two servings of healthy protein, a multivitamin and 30 minutes of daily activity as well as some other guidelines. The Momentum portion of the plan does take a little more discipline, but is available for those that prefer it to the Flex plan.

Many people love the fact that when using the Weight Watchers program, they don’t have to limit eating any certain food, but simply watch how much they are eating. The main reason so many diets don’t produce results is because they demand drastic and immediate lifestyle changes that most dieters are not ready for. If you are considering losing weight, the Weight Watchers program may be able to help. You can still enjoy the great foods you love, and lose weight by simply doing more preparation and portion control. It may sound too good to be true, but Weight Watchers has the science to prove that their plan is effective, and will get you results.
